Generally all drainage will occur within 15 minutes, but nasal and sinus passages are tortuous (full of twists and turns). In rare situations, especially if you have had sinus surgery, the saline solution can pool in the sinus cavities and nasal passages and then drain out hours after rinsing. You can avoid this inconvenience by leaning over and tilting your head sideways and gently blowing your nose after rinsing. Tilt your head to the other side and blow again. You may need to turn your head back and forth several times. If you experience delayed drainage, do not rinse right before leaving your house or going to bed.
