Generally all drainage will occur within 15 minutes, but nasal and sinus passages are tortuous (full of twists and turns). In rare situations, especially if you have had sinus surgery, the saline solution can pool in the sinus cavities and nasal passages and then drain out hours after rinsing. To avoid this inconvenience, take this one extra step after rinsing: Tilt your head sideways and gently blow your nose. Tilt your head to the other side and blow again. You may need to turn your head back and forth several times. This will help empty out the areas and get rid of excess mucus and leftover saline solution and will make your nasal and sinus passages feel much clearer. If you experience delayed drainage, do not rinse right before leaving your house or going to bed.
