After my recent nasal cold - I started using a neti pot and after using it for 3-4 days - I noticed my congestion gradually increased to the point where the solution would not drain properly. After discontinuing use for a couple days - I was better. Upon continuing use - symptoms appeared again. HELP!
Some people experience reflex congestion with exposure to saline. This condition is usually temporary. If symptoms continue, consider using a hypertonic (double strength) solution, or use an over the counter decongestant for a day or two to reduce the congestion. This is usually a very mild condition that should resolve with time, and unless you have other symptoms, there is no need to discontinue ongoing irrigation. The problem should resolve on its own.
