I recently read about the two deaths in Louisiana which were attributed to the use of the sinus rinse with tap water. I use the squeeze bottle with the contents of the packet and tap water. What precautions should I be taking to protect myself?
It is not safe to use tap water. Tap water may be safe to drink, but it is not safe to put in the nasal passages. The digestive system has more defensive barriers that can handle contaminants from food and beverages. Please use only one of the approved water types indicated in the instructions: distilled, micro-fi ltered (through 0.2 micron), commercially bottled or previously boiled & cooled down water at lukewarm or body temperature. This amoeba can exist in warm fresh water (especially southern states), but you should always use safe water regardless of where you live.
