When you use the NeilMed squeeze bottle, it is possible that some of the dried out mucus is irritating the back of your throat as you mention that when you rinse further the lumps go away. Consider using NeilMed's nasal gel which is a moisturizing gel which will keep your nasal passage better moisturized and hopefully the mucus will stay soft and moist.
