Some people experience reflex congestion when exposed to saline, but this condition is usually very transient. If symptoms continue, consider using a double strength solution or use an over the counter decongestant for a day or two. This condition is very benign and mild and should resolve with time. Unless you have extreme symptoms, there is no need to discontinue ongoing sinus rinsing, as the problem will most likely resolve on its own. We do recommend using distilled or previously boiled tap water for the most effective sinus rinse.
